PRESCHOOL (Tadpoles)
Age: 3-4 years old
The Preschool class continues the encouragement of self exploration, independence, and successful social skills; but also adds a new focus on academic preparation and discussions. Tadpoles are expected to discuss and describe emotions, thoughts, and feelings using words and pictures. Daily lesson plans, group activities, and weekly book themes are selected to incorporate an early foundation in reading, writing, and study skills.
Our Preschool students are introduced to early writing and tracing for Pre-K, an understanding of the sounds each letter of the alphabet makes, the days of the week, months of the year, along with seasons and holidays associated with each of them.
Curriculum for Tadpoles also includes, but is not limited to: identifying animals, shapes, letters, numbers, counting to 20, identifying and repeating patterns, along with various other group educational topics and activities. Scheduling for Tadpoles includes: circle, story, and discussion time, as well as organized play and group activities. The goal of our Tadpoles class is to develop an advanced understanding of the subject matter and tasks required in Pre-K and Kindergarten.
Age: 4-5 years old
Our Pre-K class is designed to be a Kindergarten Readiness program. The students in this class will learn all the necessary skills in language arts and math to be successful when entering kindergarten. Pre-K focuses on a letter of the week each week. Each day the children will do writing practice beginning with letters and moving into words. Math skills are also an important part of Pre-K. Math skills include number sequencing, telling time, patterns, and addition.
Following a schedule is important in this room to help with school preparation. Each day will include circle time, art, centers, and rest time in addition to language arts and math. In our Pre-K, the children begin to become more independent with their life skills, and this independence is encouraged throughout the year as they discover their capabilities.
Show and Tell takes place in our Pre-K room! Each Friday the students can bring in a secret item that begins with our letter of the week. The students present their item to enforce some practice with early public speaking. We have lots of supplement curriculum materials such as Scholastics: Clifford's My Big World to explore two topics per month.
